What is RSS?

RSS is an easy way to stay informed of updates to a website. When you subscribe to our RSS feed News, you will receive an alert as soon as a new news item is published on ICCO.nl. RSS files (feeds) generally comprise headlines, leads and links to the full story.

There are several ways to access RSS files. The latest browsers, including Internet Explorer 7 and Modzilla Firefox, have built-in functions to subscribe to RSS feeds. In Firefox this function is called Live Bookmarks .

You can also download a special RSS reader (free of charge). This operates in the background of your PC, and gives out an alert as soon as one of your favourite websites publishes a new message. Example: RSSReader.

You can also opt for online RSS services. Simply register and enter your RSS feeds. The programme will give you an overview of all the updates on your favourite sites. Examples: Bloglines and OnlineRSS

Adding an RSS file

Browsers can often automatically detect whether a browser offers RSS feeds. RSS feeds are marked by this icon  .  Orange markers containing the words 'RSS' or 'XML' are also used: In order to subscribe to an RSS feed, you will need the web address of the RSS file, e.g. ICCO-News.rss. To receive alerts, this address must be entered into your RSS reader.
