Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries world's third largest donor
5 January 2012
The Dutch Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries is the third-largest private charity donor in the world. This was announced last December by City A.M., a popular business-focused newspaper in London.
For the first time, City A.M. published a list of the Top 20 largest private donors in the world. Having donated a total of £ 451 million to charity, Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries came in third. Only the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in America and the Wellcome Trust in the UK (which donated £ 1.67 billion and 602 million respectively) are ahead of it as the largest donors in the world. The Top 20 donors in the world are currently all American and British benefactors. Dutch Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries is the only exception on the list.
Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries is the holding of the National Postcode Lottery, founded in the Netherlands in 1989. Since then, the Lottery has grown to be the largest charity lottery in the Netherlands, donating 50% of its profit to 81 good causes. ICCO has been one of these beneficiaries since 2008.
The mission of Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries is to organise lotteries all over the world, which will raise funds for charity. Within the Netherlands the holding includes not only the Postcode Lottery but also two others. In addition, lotteries have been set up in the United Kingdom (People's Postcode Lottery) and in Sweden (Svenska PostkodLotteriet).
